Sept.14 Devotion:The Old Paths

The Old Paths

Jeremiah 6:16

Thus saith the Lord , Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein .

In today’s world we grow tired of things very quickly. We get new phones each year, our computers are outdated in weeks, and people flock to new social media platforms all the time. There are even new sports leagues popping up all the time now. We are constantly looking for something new and improved.

Unfortunately, this has also infiltrated into the church. New “bibles”, and new ways of doing things in order to keep people’s attention or to attract new people. There absolutely are things that may require adjusting in order to reach people that weren’t done years ago. However, if any of it goes away from God or His Word then it’s not going to work in the long term. It may cause a spark, but it’s God that can sustain that fire!

We can read and study about revivals in the past that spread all over and seen thousands saved. What’s the difference between then and now? The people have changed! God’s Word is still the same! If we would go back to the things that are proven then we could have a lasting impact on people’s lives. I haven’t been able to get 2 things out of my mind that we seem to have gotten away from.

1. Prayer

How serious do we take our prayer time? This isn’t our grocery list to God, but is our time to really beseech God on behalf of others! We’d be amazed that if we prayed for others the way we should how God will work out our issues.

2. God’s Word

We’ve replaced God’s Word with all kinds of self help books. Those things may have their place, but too often people run to those instead of investing time in God’s Word first. We’ve read here before the importance of His Word for our lives.

2 Timothy 3:16

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

If it’s that profitable then why not go there first.

If we would be truly devoted to God’s Word and prayer then we’d be amazed on how God would show up and change lives!

God bless you today!
