O, Give Thanks

Psalm 136

Four times in this Psalm, we're instructed to give thanks. In every verse in this chapter, the main reason for being thankful is given. Every verse states that God's mercy endureth forever. The Bible says that in the last days, men would be unthankful. Our generation of people has more material wealth than ever but is less thankful. We are the most discontented people I've seen in my life. The Bible says to give God thanks; that is what he deserves and desires.

First, he said that God is good. It is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance. Only God can do the great things that God does. Who can speak the world into being? Our God alone protects and provides for all his children. It’s amazing how God cares for the lost who have no hope and are deserving of eternal judgment, but God is merciful. This psalms starts and ends the same way: O give thanks.
