Sept.7 Devotion:Follow Instructions Carefully

Follow Instructions Carefully

2 Timothy 3:16-17

[16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: [17] That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

I am guessing most who read this have bought something that either required you to put it together or required you to know how to use it before using. When you open the package it would tell you to read the instructions or read the directions first before getting started. There are times when guys allow their ego’s to get in the way, and we don’t read the directions, only to get into putting something together and realize it’s all wrong and have to go back and start all over. As I have gotten older I have realized that it’s easier to jut start with the directions first. Why don’t we treat the Bible the same way? Our text verse tells us today that the Bible is profitable for everything in our lives. However, we too many times try things on our own before we go seeking God‘s will for our life, or before we go seeking an answer from God. Our Pastor often says, and it would do us a lot of good if we would practice this:Before making any big decision in our lives we should seek and have a verse from the Bible. If we would do that first it would save us a lot of heartache and problems at times.

I think back to when a bunch of us guys were putting together a new swing set at our church. There were times that the instructions were confusing us. We didn’t just put them away. Instead we would look at other pages, or look at pictures to get a better understanding. We should do the same. If we get somewhere in our life that we aren’t getting clarity the answer isn’t to just do it on our own. It’s then that we should invest even more time in His Word to help make sure we make that decision based on His will.

How do you treat the Bible? Just something you read on occasion, or a true instruction manual for your life?

God bless you today!
