Hosea 14:1 – “O Israel return unto the Lord thy God; for thou hast fallen by thy iniquity.“
Definition of return – to go back to former place, position, state
Here we have a challenge or call to return back to the Lord. Israel had left the Lord because of iniquity and needed to return. In verse two, the writer says return with “words”, meaning words of repentance. We could use the words of I John 1:9. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
When Do We Need to Return to the Lord?
When the Word of God brings no joy
When the will of God is secondary in our life
When the ways of God cease to excite us
When the work of God is uninteresting
When the wicked fail to break our hearts
When the wonderful coming of the Lord doesn’t stir us
