Romans 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
We all need help in this life. No man is an island, and no one can make it all on their own. We may think we have a handle on it, but it simply is not true and that is not reality. The question to ponder is, am I being a blessing to others by walking alongside them as a friend and an encouragement? Do I prefer them as I am instructed to do in Scripture or do I only give a token effort? If we prefer one another, our focus would be on service rather than being served. To “honour” someone is to give them value as a treasure and to treat them as precious. People need our help, and it is not for self-gain but should come from genuine compassion.
“Kindly affectioned” and “brotherly love” are attributes of pure motive and heartfelt desire. There is no ulterior motive behind it. It is real and effectual. Our help should be offered as an extension of our relationship with the Lord that will cause us to reach out to others. If we value those around us as the Lord values them, then we will seek ways to be an encouragement. If it is always me, me, me, then we have become callous and hardened. John 3 tells us that, “God so loved the world that he gave…” and if we are to exemplify the love of our God, we will give of ourselves to others. There are those that need you. Help them.
