Genesis 22:13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
Abraham was tested by God. It was a seemingly odd test but a very powerful one. The Lord told him to offer his son as a sacrifice. His son was the promised seed. The son of his old age. Isaac was very precious to Abraham, and he loved him very much. But what Abraham set out to do proved that his love for God was supreme. Abraham’s obedience was not based in blind faith, for he believed that God was able to do the miraculous. He knew that God was righteous, and he knew that God (if need be) could raise his son from the dead. He was going to trust God and obey his command.
We find in the above verse from Genesis 22 that God had provided an animal to be the substitute for Isaac. Abraham believed that God would provide himself a lamb, and he did. The ram caught in the thicket, took Isaac’s place.
God choose to offer his own Son upon the cross of Calvary as a sacrifice for man’s sin. Jesus was the sacrificial Lamb. He took my place and your place. He paid a price that we could not pay. The love that put Jesus on the cross reaches out through the ages to this very day. He calls unto you and simply asks, will you turn from your sin that he died for, and receive him as your Savior? He paid for your sin so that you would not have to. Your payment and my payment could never be enough. Forgiveness and redemption are not an option for us if we try to pay our own way. But the Father accepted the payment of Christ on our behalf. Will you receive it that this payment might become effectual for you? Trust Christ today as your Savior. He took your place.
John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
