Follow the Steps
Genesis 6:22
Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
As I had the opportunity to travel the last couple of weekends, it got me to thinking about how we used to get directions for trips. I remember the days of having to use a map. That then progressed to printing off directions and taking them with you. Now we just type something in on our phone or on the screens in our vehicle, and it gives us step-by-step instructions on how to get someplace.
If you read the entire account of Noah, here we find how the Lord gave him detailed instructions on how to build the ark. Step-by-step, the Lord told him how he wanted it built so that Noah and his family would survive the flood that the Lord was about to bring upon the Earth. Within finding our text verse, we see how Noah did everything according to what the Lord had told him. He had to follow each step as the Lord had instructed in order to get to the next step.
This all got me to thinking this week about the steps we may fail to take in our lives for a variety of things. What steps are we taking to become a better spouse? What steps are we taking to become a better child? What steps are we taking to become a better Christian? What steps are we taking to see revival break out? These are all things that with our words, we may say we have a desire to see us become. However, what steps are we taking to see that those things take place? If I want to become a better golfer, I’m going to practice more. If I want to become a better cook, I’m going to cook more often or try new recipes. Am I getting in the Bible to try to become a better Christian? Am I spending more time in prayer to pray for revival or pray for the leadership by the church for the Lord to lead us where we need to go? I can’t think of much of anything that requires one step and that’s all you need. Things take work. Things take time. If we want to see the Lord move in our lives and move our church, there are steps we are going to have to take ourselves to see that take place. Instead, I feel like at times we act more like baby birds with our mouths in the air just waiting for God to take care of us. What are we putting in for God to do anything with?
Are you taking steps to see God use you or move or are you just stuck in the same place waiting on God to do it all for you?
God bless,
Bro. Josh Richardson
