Judgmental Comparisons
Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
I’ve heard this conversation a few times. People talking about coming upon a bear in the woods. The statement then gets made that I don’t have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun the slowest person. A statement that can seem cruel, funny, and yet is truthful all at the same time. We have a tendency to look at others and how we compare in a lot of situations. Too often we hear the text verse thrown around about not judging others. We are not to overlook sin. I’d venture to say that a lot of the sin running rampant in today’s society is a result in “not judging” and calling sin what it is. Sin! However, how often do we judge others in order to prop our own lives up. Ever had the thought that I have to be a better Christian than so and so because….(whatever reason we want to use to fit). We feel like we are more faithful. Ever had thought that church couldn’t make it without all you do? Ever looked at someone who may have fallen and said there’s no way you’d get in that position? Be very careful with that attitude as I know of great preachers who have fallen. None of are immune to a single bad decision that could lead us down a path we said we’d never take. In the story I started with we just have to be better than someone else. That is not how we are to live our Christian lives. When we compare ourselves to others we will always pick the person who we think we are better than in some form or fashion. Instead of looking at others today look at Christ. Don’t judge your life based on others. Judge your life based on the Bible and see if you are who God wants you to be.
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
