Your Gift from God
1 Timothy 4:14
Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
Jeremiah 1:5
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
When I watch professional sports I’m often in awe of how good those guys and gals are. It is such a huge difference from high school to college to the pros. While part of that is God given talent, a lot of it is also how much time they put into their craft. God created each of us and placed something in each of us that we can use in our lives. However, if we neglect that gift then it can become of no use to us. A pro golfer will spend hours just hitting golf balls and working on their swing. How about us when it comes to the gift God has given us? I mentioned while preaching this past Wednesday evening that long before I stand in front of a congregation I have preached to myself many times over. As well as studied and sought what God would have me to preach. Maybe God has blessed you with talent to sing, then how much time do you put in practicing? What about teaching? Do you put in the study time or search ways to become a better teacher. No matter how small a thing YOU think it is that God has given you He gave it to you for a reason. Therefore, we need to do the best we can to optimize it for His glory! Are you neglecting the gift God has blessed you with today? If so, it could be gone tomorrow!
