Contend or Comply
Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
I believe if Jude was writing this letter today he could write this verse the same way. It’s still just as needed now as ever. How many truly contend for the faith? We seem to have plenty that will comply. We tend to just go with the flow so we don’t upset the apple cart so to speak. We don’t want to take a chance to be out on an island all by ourselves if no one else is willing to have our back. We go along to get along. Instead of complying we are exhorted to contend! Contend for the faith that has preserved His Word through time. Contend for the faith that promises us a home in Heaven if you’re saved! Contend for the faith that so many before us were willing to die for! Think of those mentioned in Hebrews 11:
Hebrews 11:36-40 [36] And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: [37] They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; [38] (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. [39] And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: [40] God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
Stoned, sewn asunder, slain, etc. Yet we won’t even stand up and let our voices be heard for fear someone may not like us anymore, or someone might even cuss to our face? If we aren’t willing to contend then what type of world will we leave for our kids or grandkids? Do you contend or just comply?
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
