Aug 12 Devotion: I Serve A God

I Serve A God

Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

It’s easy to look at this verse and judge those in the beginning that Joshua refers to. It’s easy to think, how dare they think it’s evil to serve the Lord! We look at others and judge them based on our perceptions of what they serve. The word serve strictly means to perform certain tasks or duties for something or someone else. The key word here is “for.” We claim to serve God, but is that truly our heart? If you’re attending service out of a feeling of obligation, then you’re not serving God. Are you studying out of fear of what may happen if you don’t? It’s easy to fall into “good” habits. Attending church because we’re supposed to. Studying to ease our conscience. We fall into these traps when we find ourselves serving other things. We begin to place more importance on worldly things over God. Hopefully we will examine our hearts to make sure we haven’t fallen into any of these traps, and that we haven’t replaced God with something else. I serve a great God who:

-Shields

Psalm 33:20 Our soul waiteth for the Lord : he is our help and our shield.

-Saves

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

-Supplies

Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

-Settles

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

He’s so good to us that our desire should be to serve Him!! Are you serving God today with all your heart, or are you serving Him out of obligation, or maybe even not at all?

God bless you today!
