Aug. 14 Devotion: Compassion for Others

Compassion for Others

Matthew 9:36 [36] But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

I want us to take a look at that word compassion. Compassion means to have concern for sufferings or misfortunes of others. Compassion is something severely lacking today. You’ll be hard pressed to find much compassion in todays world. You’ll come across a lot more coldness than compassion. What about us when we look at the world, are we moved with compassion? Too often we look at the world and see their lifestyle, political views, religious beliefs, sports teams or whatever and we allow that to cause us to become defensive or angry at them. We need to be seeking to see if they are saved. What did God see in us before we were saved? Did He not have compassion on us and send someone to share the Gospel with us so that we have that promise of eternity in Heaven. This world is scattered and caught up in all kinds of things that have nothing to do with God. We can point them to the Great Shepherd!! Let’s be different than the world as we walk in our daily lives. Offer a hug, maybe a smile, or share what Jesus has done in your heart. The least we can do though is pray for them! Ask God how you can have compassion and be of help in a world that is “scattered abroad”.

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
