Aug. 28 Devotion: True Kindness

True Kindness

Ruth 2:4,8-9 And, behold, Boaz came from Beth-lehem, and said unto the reapers, The Lord be with you. And they answered him, The Lord bless thee. [8] Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens: [9] Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.

Have you ever witnessed someone doing something and thought to yourself that that was a nice gesture and you wouldn’t have expected that coming from them. I’d say we all know those people who we’d call nice, and then those that maybe not so much. We know the story of Boaz and Ruth. We know the favor and grace that Ruth was shown that she even questioned. Ruth 2:10 Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger? Look at the beginning of our text though in verse 4. Look how Boaz treated the reapers. This would classify as being nice in my book. I’ve not had someone in charge ever tell me “The Lord be with you” when I started a task. From this to how he treated Ruth we see the kindness and generosity shown by Boaz. How much kindness do we show on a daily basis? It’s a wonderful thing to be nice at the right moment and to just do the right thing, but do we ever go out of our way to be nice? Think of how Boaz told his reapers to let some handfuls of purpose fall for her. He didn’t have to go that far in seeing that Ruth was blessed, yet he did. This world is full of people who may be confused, depressed, hurt, or just in a bad spot. They just need a little kindness shown their way sometimes. Think about these 2 statements: They are such a nice person. That was such a nice gesture. Which would you rather be known as? A nice person or that one that may do something nice from time to time, but overall just not someone people would want to be around all the time?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
