Dec. 12 Devotion: Importance of the Word

Importance of the Word

Psalm 119:105

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

When we think about this verse we often focus on applying it to the paths we take and decisions we make in our life. God’s Word functions like this: it does not flood tomorrow with blinding clarity but faithfully illuminates where our foot falls today. It can correct immediate dangers of sin, expose hidden pitfalls of pride and unbelief, and guides each decision in righteousness. Trusting Scripture keeps us from wandering into darkness; obeying it turns the lamp into steady forward motion. This is all important for us to apply to our lives.

However, another reason His Word is so important is the comfort it can bring. There are times we might feel our life is over. Maybe you hit a spot where you don’t know how you can go on. Those are the times that you need to lean on His Word and the things He has revealed to you through His Word and allow it to light up your path as you continue to go forward. It’s just another reason why it’s so important to read and study the Bible. We never know what circumstances await us and how we will need the Word for our life.

I think of the loss that has taken place in our church the last few months. We’ve had a member go home to be with the Lord and so many members have lost someone close to them. Whether it was expected or sudden it is always tough to lose a loved one. Those are some of the times we need to know Gods Word and lean on it. Draw peace and comfort from it that only it can bring. The best thing we can do is to lean on the promises laid out in the Bible to help us get through!

God bless,

Bro. Josh Richardson
