Dec 20 Devotion: Patient Faith

James 1:2-4 “2-My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;          3-Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

In this passage, James gives us the following truth; the trying of faith through temptation develops patience. In that truth lies the key to overcoming temptation … faith and patience.

To prevail over temptation we must never waiver in our faith, and endure (or be patient) until the Lord makes a way of escape. Be content with what we have and let our faith in God keep us satisfied through the temptation.

Temptation overtakes us when:

1). Our Faith is Anemic – without trusting that God is greater than the joys of the world we will always fall into temptation.

2). Our Outlook is Apathetic – If we don’t care whether our spirituality is strong, or if we don’t see the importance of living like Christ, we won’t even care that our decisions are detrimental to the cause of Christ.

3). Our Patience is Adolescent – If we haven’t put our faith into God to overcome temptation we never have developed patience. If we haven’t learned to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord we will never resist temptation and settle for the temporary fleshly enjoyment.

So, have faith and wait upon the Lord in temptation. Anything else will result in a life mired with missteps and an inability to resist the wiles of the Devil.

Your Fellowservant in Christ,

Bro. Jordan Foster
