Dec 28 Devotion: New Year, Same God

Psalms 93:2 – “Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.”

Have you ever stopped to think how steadfast and sure our Solid Rock truly is? As the Psalmist wrote, He is from everlasting. From the very Alpha of time, God has not changed. Not in the smallest or most insignificant way. It really is almost inconceivable for someone to comprehend fully.

The very sun and stars navigate the sky in a different position than the day before. The moon is ever waxing only to then wain back to nothing. Your daily life is inundated with impermanence, and nothing is ever without change. Man says, “the only constant is change;” but, our Heavenly Father is the same today as He was yesterday and He will be the same tomorrow.

How great a thing it is to KNOW, to actually have assurance, that God is the same from everlasting past to everlasting future. Nothing is more aggravating than someone constantly moving to goal line and robbing you of the blessed gift of knowing what they expect. However, our God has never once changed his expectations, altered his law or doctrine, or in any fashion surprised you with a new mandate. He has always expected one thing, holiness: “be ye holy for I am holy.”

Then His method of providing an avenue to robe us in the righteousness of His Only Begotten is just as everlasting as God himself is, it was planned before the foundation of the earth. No new mandates, no new policies enacted, no change in your daily duties. He simply beckons every morning with the same commandment, take up your cross and follow him.

Take a moment sometime to meditate on all of the chaos in this world. Look at all the madness this world calls sanity and you’ll notice a trend as old as the Garden of Eden. Why did Eve eat the apple? Because she wasn’t certain that God’s Word was as permanent and invaluable as it truly was. Why did Cain slay his brother able? Because Cain changed his personal expectations of what God would accept as an offering for sins. Consistent change cultivates systemic doubt in the hearts of those that endure it. The world is cynical and jaded because they don’t believe anything will last.

How much praise and worship is God worthy of for being the one that never changes. Further, even his ways change not. His Word is forever settled in heaven. There is no place for doubt when you realize that all that has been delivered unto you and preserved by God since the beginning of time can be trusted and believed in without second guessing.

How wonderful is it to know that every morning God is still the same? He will always accept what He said was acceptable. He will always judge by the same standard. His love is very overwhelming, His mercies endureth forever, not one of His promises has ever been unfulfilled and there has never been a day where He was not Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Omnipresent. He was, is and will ever be everything you could ever need, want, or imagine.

Best of all, despite our ignorance of all the changes of the upcoming year, God is already preparing you today for the changes the world has planned for tomorrow.

Your fellowservant in Christ,

Bro. Jordan Foster
