Dec 6 Devotion: Kindness

Kindness

Colossians 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

I got today’s thought for the devotion in a strange way. We have a few trees in our backyard and the last one finally dropped it’s leaves over the weekend. In trying to get them all cleaned up this week I thought about how great a blessing they were in the summer in providing a shade as I mowed the yard, and how big of an aggravation they were now as I had to clean them up. I then began to wonder about how people see me. As children of God we should not be wishy-washy in our actions. This verse talks about us being forgiving, long-suffering, and showing kindness, etc. As we celebrate this Christmas season it’s easy to be in a wonderful mood and show kindness to others. Just like we love the leaves on the trees when they provide us a nice shade in the summer or beautiful colors in the fall. However, what about after or before the holiday season? Are you still that person that shows kindness? Would your co-workers go out of their way to talk to you just because of the fact you are kind and a beacon of light they can count on in a dark world? Or are you that person they’d avoid if they seen you coming because they don’t know what person they’d get in you?

Go out today and just be kind to someone. Whether it’s a nice word, a text, letting someone know you care, or just being a listening ear for someone who’s struggling. It’s no telling the impact we could make on those around us if we’d just be kind!!

God bless you today!
