Feb 18 Devotion: Are You Still On The Milk?

Are You Still On The Milk?

1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

As this verse states, babies desire to be fed. They will also let you know when they are hungry. As newborns, milk is what they are fed. Through time, they grow, and graduate to other foods. Baby cereals, baby food, and eventually food just like adults eat. This doesn’t happen overnight, but is a process.

Same thing should be true in our walk with Christ. We don’t get saved and immediately know all there is to know. We start off with simple things per se and over time get a better understanding of God’s Word. As adults we like to try new things and grow in our tastes, and the same should be true as Christians. We should constantly strive to learn more about God, His Word, His will for our life, etc. However, too often we grow at church, but not as Christians.

-We can sing lots of hymns by heart, but don’t know more about Him!

-We know all about our pals at church, but don’t spend time in prayer for services

-We look at church as work(I have to go to church today), as opposed to I get to go worship Him!

-We have the financials at church memorized, but would have a hard time remembering the last message preached.

-We can tell you who was or wasn’t there, but know nothing about discerning the voice of God.

We should love our church, as well as the people in it. However, our text verse tells us to desire the “sincere milk of the word, that he may grow..” So are you growing more in your Christian walk or growing more at playing church? Think back to when you got saved. Do you know more now about the church or about God’s Word at this point in your life?

God bless you today!
