Feb. 7 Devotion: Taking Inventory

Taking Inventory

Genesis 22:7

And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?

One of the days we dislike the most at my work is inventory day. We do a few internal inventories through the year that might only take half a day, but the one we do at the end of the year normally takes all day. For my building that usually means you spend a couple hours counting and then the rest of the day cleaning which can be very boring. In our text we see Isaac taking inventory of what Abraham had with them. He knew what was needed for a sacrifice, which meant he knew something was missing. When was the last time you took inventory of your life to make sure you wasn’t missing anything?

Have you missed fellowship time with friends because you was just too busy? I don’t know about you but I’m guilty of getting through a week or two or more and realize I’ve not text or talked to (fill in the blank). Whether it be a friend, family member, etc. You never know how someone could be struggling and even a simple text could help their spirits. We live such fast paced lives nowadays unfortunately it’s easy to miss out on opportunities to possibly help lift someone up.

Have you fell into a routine that maybe you’re missing some of your prayer time? Have you gotten too busy so you’re missing some study time with the Lord?

I encourage you take inventory of what you have in your life. Are you missing anything that should be there? Are you missing some things we should truly require to have in our lives in a daily basis? Isaac knew what was needed for a burnt offering and one of those things was missing. We know the needs we have in our lives. Are we sure to make sure they are there daily?

God bless
