Feb 8 Devotion: Things, Not Needs

Things, Not Needs

Ecclesiastes 10:19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things .

Have you ever made this statement: If only I had more money? We live in a society that tends to want to throw money at everything, including our problems. We know what the Bible says about the “love of money”. It’s not money, but the love of it that gets us into trouble too many times. The more money we have, then the more we tend to trust in it, instead of trusting in God. Money isn’t going to buy us joy, it’s not gaining us salvation. Yes, money can get things, but those things are just temporary.

Psalm 35:9 And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord : it shall rejoice in his salvation.

Matthew 6:19-20 [19] Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: [20] But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

God will provide our needs when we trust Him! Don’t get yourself caught up in confusing your needs and your wants. When we allow our wants to consume us, we then begin to place too much importance on money. That is the situation that causes us to start chasing the dollar and get us away from God. Work overtime and miss church, volunteer to work extra that cut’s into our daily time with God. If it’s something that is keeping us, or taking our time away from God, then it’s not worth it. Don’t get caught up in worrying too much about the temporary things that this world has to offer.

God bless you today!
