WHEN SIN KNOCKS ON YOUR DOOR

Genesis 4:6-7 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?

[7] If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

Psalm 40:12-13, 17 For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me. [13] Be pleased, O Lord , to deliver me: O Lord , make haste to help me.

[17] But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

1 John 1:8-9 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

[9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

In (Psalm 40) of our text, David had been blinded, overwhelmed, and weakened by his iniquity so he was not even able to look up. What a picture of the emotional and spiritual battle of King David the Scripture gives to us. David the most beloved king in the history of the people of Israel; mighty warrior and conqueror of the fiercest of enemies, brave and devoted shepherd, poet and song writer, anointed of God, and yet here he is struggling with iniquity that has taken hold of him. David commanded the most feared army of the world, stood bravely face to face with a giant who had slain countless men before him, and though outnumbered on many occasions, he held his position before the most powerful armies of his day because he knew the God of Heaven was with him. A man who could not be captured even though many had put forth a most valiant effort to bring down this mighty king. What could bring the most feared king to ruin? What or who could make such a warrior another’s slave? What could bring such fear to David that would cause his very heart to fail as we see in the text? Untouchable by man, but now David writes in other words: conquered, overtaken, blinded, outnumbered, and stripped of all strength.

The mighty conqueror that brought David low to this place in his life was his iniquity. Starting in the garden, SIN and INIQUITY have been the most destructive force known to mankind. Sin makes the strong weak, it darkens the path that was once lit, and makes the free man its slave. Notice the warning from God in our text in (Gen 4:7). The Word of God reveals to us that “sin lieth at the door.” Friend, this is the devils tactic and the intent of sin. Before Cain murdered his brother Abel, God gave Cain this warning. Sin waits at your door, it’s subtle, it’s hidden, and it knocks and knocks, waiting for the moment that the door is opened that it may go in. WHY??? Because SIN desires to overtake us, to steal and destroy all that is good in our life, family, and our walk with Jesus.

It does not matter who we are, how strong we are, the position we hold, the wisdom that we possess, or even the amount of battles we’ve won in the past. Sin will always seek to enter our lives, weaken us, and blind us in order to lure us away that it may take us into the land of captivity. In all my years of growing up in church and being around some of the greatest preachers and faithful men and women of God; The most horrible sight, is seeing someone who was ONCE in the land of honor and blessing that is now left in ruins and has been led away captive and their testimony destroyed by sin. Sin on any level is devastating to any life, whether they are great or small, rich or poor.

The battle over personal sin is won long before the temptation ever knocks upon our door. We should fearsin because of who God is. What is your attitude toward sin? Is it, “I’ll just do it this one time because I know I can always ask forgiveness later?” Is it, “I’m not hurting anyone?” Or, “I’m not like other people who murder, steal, or commit so called vile sin.” If you are in bondage today because you’ve been enticed by sin, then know this; “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9). No matter how far you’ve strayed, confession with repentance will bring forgiveness and deliverance.
