Jan 14 Devotion: Do You Love Church?

Do You Love Church?

Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

We know and have heard this verse quoted and read many times. When I think back to the times I’ve heard it, it mostly always dealt with marriage. I have it heard it used also in talking about how much Christ lived the church. Along those lines I have a simple question today along those lines. Do YOU love the church? Not do you go, not do you enjoy going, but do you love church? We all have things outside of church we love to do. It might be playing a sport, watching a certain show, shopping, building things, or many other things. We will do all we can to be able to do these things because we love them. We will set aside a time to do them. We will possibly practice to get better st our sport. We might even work overtime to save up more money to be able to go shopping. Do we treat church the same way? Do we love church enough to put the time in when we aren’t there, so that when we get there we make it the best service we can. How much time do we spend in prayer each week for the services? How much time do we spend studying and learning more about God so that when we show up we have a sense of what is being preached or taught?

Too many times instead of loving church the way we should, we just really like it. When we just really like it we show up when we can, and don’t give a second thought to not going at times. We don’t spend time in preparation for the services. It’s those attitudes that lead to the number our pastor shared yesterday in service. Over 6500 churches close their doors each year. I wonder how many of those had people in them that at one time loved the church, but for whatever reason just got to the point where they just liked it. Little by little they just fell out of love with the church and drifted away. Then, before you know it, it’s gone.

We have a gentleman in our church that numerous times I’ve heard him say in prayer that he just loves his church. Do you?

God bless you today!
