Jan 21 Devotion: Turning A Basket Into Baskets

Turning A Basket Into Baskets!

John 6:5-13

[5] When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? [6] And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. [7] Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. [8] One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him, [9] There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? [10] And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. [11] And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. [12] When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. [13] Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.

Our Pastor mentioned this passage during service yesterday morning, and it really got me to thinking about the blessings of God. We know the story here how a multitude had followed Jesus, and now they get to this point where he wants to feed them before sending them on their way. We know the disciples don’t see how it’s possible to feed all these people. Ever get to that point in your life where you just don’t see anyway for things to work out? You could even be walking step in step with The Lord, and still you just can’t see a way. Those are times when we just need to give it all to Him, and watch Him do things we can’t even imagine! Too many times God wants to use us, and for whatever reason we don’t just give ourselves to Him. We hold on to something that He wants us to give up. No matter how big or small we may think it is, if God wants it, then we need to give it. This young lad was willing to just give all he had to Jesus to be used however it could be used. When we do this, not only do we get the honor and privilege of being used, but God can also bless us with way more in return. When we are willing to give God our basket, He often returns us baskets!!

Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Just be willing today to give Him your basket!!

God bless you today!
