Jan 25 Devotion: Perilous Times

Perilous Times

2 Timothy 3:1-5

[1] This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. [2] For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, [3] Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, [4] Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; [5] Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

The more I seen this week on the state of New York and their change to their abortion laws I just could not get these verses off my heart the last few days. This scripture is very familiar to most of us and we like to throw it around to the lost to show them how close we are to Jesus’s return. I have two main questions regarding this scripture for you today.

1. Do you believe it?

We’ve heard it preached for so long have we gotten to the point where it has no affect on us? We say we believe it, but does our life show it? How often do we tell others about Christ? How concerned are we about being right with God at all times, because He could call us out of here at any moment? That brings me to question two.

2. How often do you think about this?

We often say we aren’t guaranteed tomorrow. Do we believe that? How often do we think about the fact that we are truly living in the last days, and the Lord could call us out of here at anytime? Are we where we need to be? Not just with God, but with others? I don’t believe this should be a depressing thing. We should look forward to the fact that at any moment our next breath could be in heaven!!! That should put us in a place where we want to be in the center of God’s will. We should want to be right with others, and not carrying around grudges or talking bad about others. Any of these things keep us from being where we need to with God. I’ve heard it said by someone that they have a conviction about not passing a beer down the aisle at a ballgame. They don’t want to be shot on the jumbotron holding a beer, nor be holding one when the Lord calls them out of here. How come we don’t have that attitude about when it comes to other things. We shouldn’t want God to call us out when we aren’t where we need to be!

Thinking about all the things going on in our country we truly are in the last days. Everything contained in these verses are playing out right before our eyes. Are you ready?

God bless you today!
