Proverbs 19:1 – “Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.”
On first reading this verse may strike the young Christian as a proclamation that to hurry in a task is a sin. That is not the wisdom that God intended for us to glean.
We know that to make haste means to throw all caution to the wind and make an attempt to finish with all speed. It is this reckless abandon that God wishes to dissuade in His children.
While hastening may not be a sin unto itself, that forethought and preparation sacrificed in its implementation can very easily lead to sin in a believers life.
Are we not encouraged by Paul to run our race with patience? Are we not urged to shod our feet with prepared peace?
When we isolate a certain task and pursue it with all haste, we lose sight of any other objective; including, dying out to self and allowing Christ to live in us. The only thing that matters to one that hasteth is fulfilling the goal. Testimony, witnessing, spiritual standing and holiness are not even an afterthought.
Why have so many done wrong while endeavoring to do the right thing? Well, in David’s case (when bringing the ark back to Jerusalem) it was haste. Why do so many fall into the snares of the Devil blindly? Because in haste they were no concerned enough to be prepared for them.
Our lives were planted on the Solid Rock when God saved us, we should yearn for each step we take to find such solid purchase. Everything we do ought to be seasoned with meditation on God’s Word and prayer, so as to avoid any oversights that come with a hastened pace.
Your fellowservant in Christ, Bro. Jordan Foster
