Jul 13 Devotion: Obeying the Gospel!

Rom. 10:1-13– For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

In Romans chapter ten we find an essential passage to aid in leading one to Christ. We know that Jesus tasted death for all men and is not willing that any should perish but that all would come to repentance. Yet in spite of Jesus’ compassion, crucifixion, commission, and call; some have chosen to disobey the gospel. In so doing they have forfeited any hope of eternal life. This tragedy could so easily be avoided if they would just trust and obey!

Obeying the Gospel!

-v. 16

*to obey the gospel, you must first realize the…

1. Scope of the Gospel! (reason for it)

Rom. 3:23- For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Rom. 5:12- Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Rom. 6:23- For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Rom. 5:19-20- For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

2. Source of the Gospel!

John 3:16- For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I John 4:9-10- In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

I Tim. 1:15- This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

3. Sacrifice of the Gospel!

I Cor. 15:1-4- MOREOVER, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

I Pet. 3:18- For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

II Cor. 5:21- For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Rom. 5:8- But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

4. Stipulation of the Gospel!

Rom. 10:8-10-But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

5. Simplicity of the Gospel! -v. 13

6. Security of the Gospel!

I John 5:10-13- He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

**Friend, Have you personally obeyed the Gospel? If not, please don’t put it off. Today is the day of salvation! -Pastor Doug Foster
