July 10 Devotion: The Acceptance Of Sin

The Acceptance Of Sin

James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

We’ve all heard the so called “fish stories.” I could go play golf today, make long putt for birdie and brag about how I made a 30 foot putt. If I didn’t measure it and know for a fact that it was that long then it’s a lie. Our problem is we just blow it off as it’s just a story, or a slight exaggeration that really isn’t hurting anybody. Ever hear the phrase that if you give an inch, then they’ll take a mile. Has that crept over into our acceptance of sin? James 4:17 is rather blatant and still true! However, we will hold grudges and think all is ok. We will bring up others past and hold it against them. Does Jesus hold your past against them?! We’ve gotten to the point where we think it’s ok to skip church. Don’t have time to study or pray? That’s ok according to our mindset. All too often we try to make excuse for things in our minds when we want to explain away things that just aren’t right! Why do we expect God to answer our prayers, or bless us even more when there are certain things that we look at as acceptable when the Bible tells us it’s wrong. I challenge you today to ask yourself if there are things in your heart that are keeping you from having that full relationship with Christ? It might not be what we call a “big” sin, but if it’s wrong it’s wrong.

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
