Confidence in God
1 John 5:14
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
This verse offers profound assurance about the power of prayer when aligned with God’s will. This verse should emphasize our confidence in approaching God, rooted in the certainty that He listens when our requests align with His perfect will. Unlike self-centered petitions, as warned in James 4:3, prayers that reflect God’s will are heard, fostering trust in His responsiveness.
The phrase “according to his will” is central, highlighting that effective prayer requires submission to God’s plan rather than personal desires. This comes through spiritual discernment, brought about by studying Scripture and seeking God’s guidance. The confidence is a faith-filled assurance in God’s character—His love, wisdom, and sovereignty. When we pray in harmony with His purposes, we can trust He hears, even if the answer differs from our expectations.
We should approach God boldly yet humbly, trusting His perfect will. It reassures us that God is attentive, inviting us to deepen our relationship with Him through prayer that seeks His glory and trusts His timing.
Do you have that confidence in Him? Do you have a confidence that wavers when the answer isn’t what you desire or what you think it should be? When taking your petitions before God, do you spend more time asking God for your way or are you willing to say to Him: not my will, but thy will? God knows what’s best! Just trust that He hears us and His answers are best!
God bless,
Bro. Josh Richardson
