Still Same Answers

Matthew 17:18-21 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. [19] Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? [20] And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. [21] Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

We know this story starts with a man coming before Jesus asking him to have mercy on his son. He tells Jesus the things his son is suffering through and that he brought him to the disciples and they could not heal him. We know how Jesus answers the disciples in verse 17 and now rebukes the devil as we get into our text. Jesus then tells them the way to get this kind out in verse 21. There are three things I see in these verses that are answers to our issues today. Jesus, prayer, and fasting. If we want our problems solved a good start is to call upon Jesus! That gets us to the prayer and fasting. When was last time you fell on your face before God and got serious about your prayer life. Not some simple prayer before a meal or a lay me down to sleep prayer, but seeking God with all your heart? What about fasting? When was last time you was so serious about seeking God for something in your life that you fasted and gave up something for a certain period of time or until you had peace from God about the decision you had to make? If the only time we are fasting is when the pastor calls for a fast then we are falling well short. In todays world it can feel like the answers change daily to the same questions. However, there are some answers that are still the same as they were thousands of years ago. Jesus, prayer and fasting are still answers to our most pressing questions that still work today!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
