Complaining About The Nets
Luke 5:4-6 [4] Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. [5] And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. [6] And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
One of things I used to do was listen to a lot of sports talk radio. Sports talk can be frustrating as well as enlightening at times. One of the things I used to always say was that for some of the people that would call in I was convinced they’d complain it was wrinkled if you gave them a $100 bill. A local team could be winning, yet they weren’t winning by enough. They could be blowing teams out, but according to some callers the manager was managing wrong. Unfortunately, that attitude exists everywhere. Some will complain about any and everything. Think about our text verses here. Simon was reluctant to let down the net because they had been there fishing all night. Yet even in his reluctance God still blessed him with enough fishes to break his net. Are you where you should be in your Christian walk? If you were to answer this question honestly to yourself what would your answer be? I think we could all answer we aren’t where we could be. We all have areas that we could improve upon. Keeping that thought in mind, now think of all that God has blessed us with. A lot of us are reaping far better than we are sowing. God has been far better to us than what we deserve. Just having clothes on our back, roof over our head, and fresh water places us far better off than a majority of this world. Why then do we spend so much time complaining? In verse 7 it says they beckoned the other ships to come help. Would that have been your immediate response or would you have instead complained that now you had a net to fix. I’d say most of us would not be that way. We’d beckon the other ships to help get all those fish in so that we could enjoy the blessings, and then we’d complain about the nets being broke. We are so quick to complain, yet slow to being just as thankful. What affect on your attitude would it have today that instead of opening your mouth to complain every chance you get, you instead praised Him and was thankful for the blessings in your life.
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
