THE STEPS OF JESUS
Colossians 1:13-17 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
[14] In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
[15] Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
[16] For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
[17] And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
All of God’s Word is supernatural, but this chapter in our text has always been special to me and one of my very favorites. It is hard for my finite mind to comprehend that God has always been. In (V.17) of our text, the Word tells us that Jesus is before all things and by HIM all things consist. One of my dreams has always been to visit Israel and walk where Jesus walked. To walk right by the sea and with my own eyes look upon the water that Jesus walked upon. What a time it would be to walk upon the very ground where Jesus fed the thousands with a young man’s lunch, where HE agonized and saw me in the future when HE prayed in the garden, and where Jesus bled and died on an old rugged cross, hallelujah! Then with my two feet walk into the empty tomb where the Son Of God was laid, and see with my own eyes what I already know to be true…HE IS NOT THERE! Bless HIS name! My friend, I am not sure what I would do if I was able to witness these things, but I do know there would be tears of joy, and for sure some running, shouting and rejoicing in my heart and soul. There would have to be something very special and spiritual about being able to walk where my Lord walked and retracting HIS STEPS through the cities and villages where the feet of Jesus touched the ground. The lingering presence of Jesus is just one of the many reasons that Israel is a crowned jewel upon this earth. It is undeniable the mark that Jesus left upon this earth and upon the nation of Israel. God will always leave a mark upon everything HE touches and upon those things that belong to HIM!
My Christian friend, HE goes before you. There is no place that you will ever find yourself that God has not already been there ahead of you. The Lord never intends for us to tread upon ground that HE HIMSELF has not walked first. Whatever lies before you, Jesus has already arrived long before it will ever take place. Our God is not restrained, restricted, or confined by time and space. HE is already working in your future, preparing, and operating in what is ahead of you because HE is a God of the future, not the past. Jesus works in the present to accomplish HIS will in the future. The child of God should never fear the future because Jesus is already there and knows all about it. You can run to HIS mighty arms and know you are safe there.
Jesus is before all things and IN HIM are all things held together, including YOU! Have you ever faced or feared facing something you knew was ahead of you, wondering how you were going to hold yourself together through it? The Lord promised us in HIS Word to hold you together through every circumstance, so you need not fear what is coming. Whatever place you find yourself in today, be still and know God is there! You are on familiar ground to Jesus for you are walking and passing through a place that HE HIMSELF has already been. Jesus has in HIS hands everything you need today. Today, as we reflect on the steps of our Savior, may the Lord direct you in all your steps to walk in Holiness, to know HIS will, and bring glory and honor to HIS holy name!
