Colossians 3:23
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
This past week, pro golfer Scottie Scheffler won the British Open, which is one of golf’s four majors. Wednesday before the tournament, he made news when he gave an answer about what fulfilled him. As he has stated before, he said something to the effect that it wasn’t golf that defined him. His fulfillment came from his faith and family. He even stated that if he ever felt that golf got in the way of those two things, then he would stop playing professionally.
After the tournament, I heard another player state that they thought Scottie had reached a point in life that he was able to devote 100% to whatever he was doing at the time. If with his family, then he was 100% involved with them. He wasn’t worried about his golf swing or the next tournament. Then on the golf course, it’s evident he’s given it 100% as he’s been the best player in golf the last 2 years nearly.
That leaves faith. How often are we 100% in when it comes to our walk with Christ? When we attend a worship service, are we 100% in or are we there physically while our mind is miles away? If you sit down to read the Bible, study, or have a time of devotion, how often do you turn off your phone or shut off all the outside noise so you can be fully invested in that time with the Lord? We will give all we have to our employer. Give all we have and be completely present while with family, and rightfully so to both of these. Do we give that same type of effort to the Lord when the time comes?
God bless,
Bro. Josh Richardson
