Proverbs 15:10 “Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.”
Without a doubt, conviction is one of the greatest mercies that God bestows upon men. Only a loving God can forestall wrath and instead provide a space of grace for the guilty to repent and be reconciled.
Last week we celebrates America’s Independence Day, but with liberty there too comes liability. I may be free to make the choices I wish, but I must likewise accept any consequence from my actions.
Saints have the free will to do as they please, but only Christians see the correcting hand of God’s conviction as a blessing. We should ever be thankful that the God who spoke the world into being cares enough about us as individuals to personally reprove a wayward soul.
Yet, as the proverb makes clear, someone who scorns when admonished will surely die. The first thing to die will be their faith in God, then their fruit will shrivel and rot, and finally they will falter and fall into the mire where their spirituality will suffocate.
To continually live in the will of God a Christian must ever be Receptive of God’s judgement, Repentant of failure, and Ready to shed the chaff of the world that may more our spiritual wheat.
