Jun 1 Devotion: Without a Preacher!

Rom. 10:13-15– For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

*In today’s realm of Christianity, much emphasis is placed on how to reach the current generation and how to utilize modern technology to accomplish this feat. I am thankful for any tool to get the gospel out but never loose sight that God’s design is built on the emphasis of preaching!

Without a Preacher!

-v. 14

*without a preacher there’s…

  1. Darkness!

II Cor. 4:3-6– But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.

6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

  1. Disobedience!

  2. Doubt!

  3. Disorder! (Confusion)

I Cor. 14:23-26; 33; 36-38; 40– If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?

24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:

25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.

33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

  1. Division!

I Cor. 3:1-8– AND I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?

5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?

6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.

  1. Damnation! (no deliverance)

I thank God for the Preacher who preached the gospel to me! I’m thankful for gospel preachers today who haven’t compromised and are still preaching the truth! Preachers are often despised, rejected, and ridiculed which leads many of them to discouragement. Be a blessing to your preacher today by uplifting him in prayer and by listening intently while he’s preaching. -Pastor Doug Foster
