Those Closest to You?

Ephesians 6:1-4

[1] Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. [2] Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) [3] That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. [4] And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

First thing I want to look at today is in verses 1 and 2. Obeying means to do what you are told, and honour is to show love and respect. We’ve reached a point in society where children have no respect for parents, and won’t listen to them. They believe parents are too strict or unfair, and thus they refuse to listen.

However, at times this begins with the parents in vs.4. Yes we should punish our children for disobedience, but we are also to care for them in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord.” If we aren’t living how God wants us to live the how can we expect our children or loved ones to live for God? That brings me to today’s thought. What do those closest to you have to say about your life? We can go to church, talk the right talk, and walk the right walk in front of those in public. What about in front of our own families? What do we talk like at home? Are the words that come out of our life Christ like? How about our walk? Are you doing the things God would have you to do in front of your family? It’s in our homes that our true selves show thru. Our immediate families are the ones that know our true colors. What would they say about you? I challenge you today to examine your heart and ask if you’re a 7 day a week Christian or just a Sunday or Wednesday Christian.

God bless you today!
