What -ility You Coming With?
1 Samuel 15:20-21
And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. [21] But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.
This past semester in Bible Institute, we’ve been in 1 Samuel. Recently, we’ve been going through how Saul and what led to his downfall as king. Preceding our text here, Saul was instructed to destroy everyone and everybody in Amalek. However, he failed to make sure that took place. I would tend to believe that the people would’ve followed his instructions, so you’d think he didn’t tell them what God had told him to do. Therefore, they had captured Agag the king and kept the best of the livestock.
We then find Samuel confronts Saul, and Saul fails to take responsibility for what was done. Saul had a responsibility to ensure the Lord’s commands were made known. Saul had the ability to see that these commands were followed through. Saul blames the people and tries to also justify why they had taken the livestock.
Thinking of responsibility, accountability, etc., got me to thinking about how do we approach church services?
Accountability— do we attend for the intent of worshiping and allowing the preaching to reveal to us where we are? Do we allow the Word to convict us and draw us closer to God?
Responsibility— do we attend with a sense of responsibility to attend? Do we take seriously the responsibility of supporting our pastor and being in your place to be used of God in the services?
Desirability— do we truly desire to go? Do you look forward to each service, or do you look at each service as a:
Liability— do you just go because it’s what you’re supposed to do? Have you lost the fire and zeal you once had to show up at the house of God?
If it’s a liability, then I pray you allow God to do a work in your heart and that you show up next time with a fire that no one can quench and see how God can use you and help you! It all comes down to us not looking at anyone else, but taking accountability for our own actions!
God bless,
Bro. Josh Richardson
