June 20 Devotion: How Are You Entering Heaven?

How Are You Entering Heaven?

2 Timothy 4:7

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

In this verse, Paul reflects on his life with a sense of fulfillment and steadfastness. Written near the end of his life, these words carry profound weight, encapsulating Paul’s unwavering commitment to his mission despite the immense trials he faced, including persecution, imprisonment, and hardship. The “good fight” signifies his relentless struggle against spiritual and worldly opposition. Think also of the fact that he used the word "good". Anything we do for the Lord is a fight or struggle worth partaking in.  “Finished my course” evokes the imagery of a race, where Paul stayed true to the path God set. “Kept the faith” underscores his steadfast belief, guarding the truth of Christ’s teachings against false doctrines. Living wholeheartedly for the Lord is all that matters in the end.

What a tremendous verse that God inspired Paul to write in this letter to Timothy. What joy it should bring us if we could get to the end of our lives and say the same thing. That we stayed true to God and His will for our lives. I’m afraid sometimes it can become too easy to get weary in well-doing. We can get complacent and not place the same importance on our Christian walk that maybe we once did.

As we look around at current events, we know it’s getting closer and closer to the church being called out of here. If that were to take place today, would you be found as one fighting the good fight and who has kept the faith? Or would you be one that would enter into heaven with a defeated spirit?

God bless,

Bro. Josh Richardson
