Moments in Time

Matthew 26:6-13

[6] Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, [7] There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat . [8] But when his disciples saw it , they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? [9] For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. [10] When Jesus understood it , he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. [11] For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. [12] For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. [13] Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

There are so many things we’ve heard taught or preached out of this passage. It’s loaded with so many things that can help us. Today I want us to take a look at what happens in vs. 7. This woman did something we often fail to do:take advantage of an opportunity. We know she came prepared with her alabaster box. How prepared are you each do for the opportunities God may present you?

1 Kings 19:12-13

[12] And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. [13] And it was so , when Elijah heard it , that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

Too often we look for an “earthquake” and fail to listen to that “still small voice.” How many times in a day are we presented with an opportunity to do something for Him. It may be a kind word spoken that could encourage or lift someone up. It could be a small gift that could be just what that person needed, and it could even be the chance to share the Gospel with someone.

It all comes about in our preparation. When was last time, or have you ever prayed to that end? God show me today someone I can help in some way. I’ll always contend the greatest blessing and feeling is when we are able to help someone else. If we want to see a change in this world, and a turn towards God then it’s gonna take Christians showing the love of God to others!

God bless you today!
