Hebrews 1:10 & 1110
“(10) And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:
11(11)They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;”
In this passage of Hebrews we find a reminder that God was when no one else was and that God created both Heaven and Earth. We also find the inevitable end of those things which were created; all things wax brittle with time and all shall perish (whether by the erosion of time or by the destruction of God as found in the book of Revelation).
It is hard to truly understand the final part of these two verses with our finite minds. “But thou remainest”, referring to God. Everything and everyone we have ever known has waxed until they perished. Yet, God REMAINS. That word means, “to continue, to abide indefinitely, and to continue unchanged.”
Since the Alpha of time, forever before, for all times to be, from then through all eternity God has not changed and will never change. He has remained the same and in no way has waxed or waited. Trying to wrap your head around that fact alone will blow your mind.
His love is ever as potent, His grace has not lost any sweetness, His mercy is still as incomprehensible, His power is still all encompassing, His reach has not shortened by a nanometer, His knowledge has not slipped away with time, His presence is still as awe inspiring and in His entirety God is still God.
All His promises are kept in their entirety down to the smallest jot and tiddle. His Word is forever settled. Unlike everything we have ever known, He hasn’t altered in any way or shape.
That being said, the very same God who REMAINS also abides in my heart. No matter what I attempt to grasp in this life, it will all fade to dust and slip through my fingers. Yet, I am His and HE IS MINE!!! I can never be separated from God, and when my flesh is laid to rest I’ll shall meet Him in Glory!
Everything around us is in a constant state of flux and decay. However, we are the adopted sons of He who changes not. I can cry Abba Father to the one who is my Solid Rock. Why would I ever desire to attain anything else? After all, two of His names are “Faithful” and “True”.
