Mar 16 Devotion: God Is Still In Control

God Is Still In Control

Matthew 8:23-27 [23] And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. [24] And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. [25] And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. [26] And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. [27] But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

If we were to read the verses prior to our text we would find Jesus performed many miracles. You find that he healed centurion’s servant, Peter’s mother-in-law, and then many more that he cast out devils and healed the sick. Yet, after all that we find the disciples now going through a storm and fearful for their lives. Instead of allowing the Lord to rest they wake Him up, asking Him to save them. He then asks them a sad question in verse 26. “Why are ye fearful, O he of little faith?” After all the disciples had seen we find they still had little faith. This little faith led them to be fearful of the storm. How’s your faith today? It’s not the will of God for us to live in fear. However, we have saved people living in fear of things going on in the world. We are faced with the perfect opportunity to show a lost world just how big God is, and instead we see God’s people living a life of fear. Just in our church we’ve seen people cured of cancer, other ailments healed, as well as the lost be saved. Why then should we doubt that God is in control, and can handle any coronavirus or anything else that comes into our life? Too often people live in fear because of their lack of surrender. We like to be in control of everything, and when something happens that we can’t control we begin to be fearful. We need to surrender our lives to God, and realize the HE is still on the throne. When we do these things we will realize that no matter what comes our way God already has it handled. Don’t live your life in fear today in these uncertain times in the world. Instead just trust that God is still in control. God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
