Mar. 18 Devotion: Hunger and Thirst

Hunger And Thirst

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

As I have gotten older I don’t know how many days that it is hot outside, but you’ll have a nice breeze blowing. I will complain that I don’t remember those nice breezes when I was younger and spending all day in a tobacco field. I can remember so many days it just felt like the air wasn’t moving at all and you would be so thirsty that even warm water was still refreshing. I would guess that we have all been at that point sometime in our lives. We’ve also all been hungry to the point where not only was our stomach growling but just about anything to eat sounded good. We’ve probably even uttered the words: “I’m starving!” When you are hungry and or thirsty you’ll search out and do anything you can to satisfy those needs. How often do we hunger and thirst after righteousness as our text verse says? How often do we hunger and thirst for God in our lives? When you are truly hungry or thirsty only food and water will satisfy you. If we walked into the Lord’s house hungering and thirsting for Him then Him showing up is all that would satisfy us. We’d spend time seeking Him in our lives to the point that nothing else would satisfy us. We’d seek His presence in everything we did, and not just to meet our wish list. We’d live our lives to be pleasing unto Him! When was the last time you truly hungered and thirsted for God to have a presence in your life? A deep down desire for righteousness?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
