Song of Solomon 6:3 – “ I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine: he feedeth among the lilies.”
Oh, what a wonderful comparison to Christ and His Bride. Just as Solomon and the Maid gave themselves wholly to each other (mind, body, and soul) the same can be claimed by the believer.
Christ continually has us on His mind as He makes intercession for the saints, His body to be broken and His blood poured out for our salvation, His Soul descended into the grave and arose again for our eternal hope and security. Likewise, we should be given entirely to Him.
The thing that caught my eye as I was reading this verse was the language that was used is describing the possession of each other. She is his, and he is hers. Total, complete, unchanging, undoubtedly. This phrase is settled, no manner of life event will change it. No measure of time will tarnish it. No business will hinder or impair it.
If the husband called, the wife would answer. If the wife wished an audience with the king, all other business was canceled. Should one desire a walk among the lilies, the other would undoubtedly attend. This statement is more than a temporary claim to become a spouse to the other. It is a statement that will always be true.
So often we wish to avoid God unless we have a desire or want, we are deaf to the calls for fellowship, repentance and restored unity in spirit. To have perfect unity with God, to have Him and Him have you, is the only way to completely live a fulfilled life. You cannot claim Christ as a companion without first commuting yourself to Him fully.
God will draw night to us, but we can never wholly experience the totality of the companionship that God desires for us to have with Him while we reserve part of ourselves away from one who has given Himself to us in totality.
Your fellowservant in Christ,
Bro. Jordan Foster
