Mar 6 Devotion: Benefits Of Waiting

Benefits Of Waiting

Psalm 40:1-3 [1] I waited patiently for the Lord ; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. [2] He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. [3] And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.

PATIENCE! Something we seem to have very little of anymore. We have drive-thru everything, shop on-line and have it delivered next day. We are even so busy that it’s more convenient to order groceries and just have someone else bring them to our car. There is nothing wrong with any of these things, but they have mostly come about by our lack of patience. We don’t have patience to wait or deal with crowds. We are the same way when it comes to the things of God. We don’t like to pray and wait. God knows our needs, and we want Him to meet them before our prayer is finished. Think of what David gained here by waiting. We know in verse 1 that God heard him. Then in verse 2 we see how God not only lifted him up, but set his feet upon a rock. God can lift us up out of anything we are going through and place our feet on solid ground. If we will allow that to happen, and follow after Him we then can have our walk steadied (“established my goings”). There is nothing more stable than following after God and being in the center of His will. Lastly, He can put a new song in our mouth. We should take great satisfaction in getting to praise God and let everyone know how great He is. Are you willing to wait on God, or does your patience run thin even with Him?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
