Mar 8 Devotion: Seconds After You Die!

II Cor. 5:8- We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

We find in this text that the Apostle Paul makes it emphatically clear that instantly after we die our soul finds itself in our eternal abode. Today’s devotion reflects on this.

*Seconds After You Die!

*there’s the…

  1. Reality of eternity!

Luke 16:22-23- And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

  1. Revelation of Glory!

Rev. 21:23– And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

  1. Regret of unfruitfulness!

Luke 19:20-23- And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:

21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.

22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:

23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?

  1. Rendering of judgement!

I Cor. 3:12-15– Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;

13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.

14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

  1. Reverence of The Lamb!

Rev. 5:9-12- And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;

12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

  1. Removal of mortality!

Rev. 21:4– And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

  1. Reuniting with loved ones!

  2. Rest from this life!

Heb. 4:9- There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

Rev. 14:13- And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

Friend, are you sure you’re saved? If not, call on the Lord Jesus and repent of your sins and ask Him to save you! If so, are you ready to face the Lord Jesus with the life you are now living? In either case, if you wait until you die you’ll be too late to amend your condition!
