Mar 9 Devotion: God’s Hand of Anointing

GOD’S HAND OF ANOINTING

1 Chronicles 4:10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

1 Corinthians 2:4-5 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

[5] That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

1 John 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

Today I want us to reflect on what I believe to be one of the most unique verses in scripture and one of the most powerful prayers in all the Bible. Please read very carefully what Jabez asked God for…he asked for blessing, for the Lord to enlarge his coast (open doors for him), for God’s hand to be with him, and for the Lord to keep him from evil! What a prayer, and praise the Lord for Jabez and his wisdom to teach us how to pray for God’s anointing! What makes this prayer so wonderful is not just the words, but that God answered his prayer and granted his request. Hallelujah! Christian friend, based upon the authority of God’s Word and what we see in this prayer, we MUST have God’s blessing and anointing in all that we do IN HIS NAME! May the Lord help us to never stand to preach, teach a class, sing a song, knock on a door, witness to a co-worker, give a testimony, or hand out a gospel tract without God’s hand and touch upon it. If we are in fellowship with our Lord and where we need to be with HIM, all we need to do is ask; ask HIM for HIS blessing in what we are doing in HIS name, ask for HIS touch on you and on the work that needs to be done. My fear is many of us go through the motions and do the work in OUR flesh, in OUR wisdom and in OUR strength, NOT with HIS blessing or HIS power. It may also be that we are not in sweet fellowship with Jesus and we know that before we could pray this prayer, we would need to do some house cleaning in our own heart.

How often do we settle for a drink when God wants to give us a river? We must not forget that God is a bountiful God and HE desires to pour out the whole of Himself upon the life of HIS child. God doesn’t give a portion of Himself to one and then another part of Himself to another and so on. HE is fully able to give all of Himself to each and every one of us because HE is God! God doesn’t want us to have just a slice of HIM. HE desires for us to have the whole of all that HE IS. God allows us to ask, but at the end of the day, it is HE that rules, not us. HE has the right to bless and the ability to do so, but we must always respect HIS position even when HE chooses not to bless on our time schedule. There is a fine line between valiant faith and selfish demands. Jabez had a faith in God but also a divine respect that remembered God was a holy God. Jabez knew the Lord still had the right to sit upon the throne. All the faith in the world will not remove God from that position of authority.

God is higher, stronger and more powerful than any situation, circumstance or people that may rise up against my life. Jabez understood the mightiness of God and in that belief he cried out to his Father. He didn’t run out and try to make it happen himself, but rather he ran to God’s throne! What a picture of honor, trust and absolute faith we see in the life of a man named Jabez. All that he asked of the Lord was no small thing. He asked God for a blessing, but not just any blessing, Jabez was asking for God’s divine hand, HIS touch and HIS anointing! Today, when the man of God opens The Word to preach it in this fashion, we call it UNCTION from the Holy God of Heaven! The preacher, becomes the conduit of Divine power from a Holy God to those who will hear the message, NOT from a man, but from the Creator! We see in our text, Jabez wanted the fullness of God’s blessing and he refused to settle for a portion, a slither, a serving! He boldly asked the God of all things for the fullness of HIS blessing.

Jabez wanted God’s very best given to him and by coming to God in prayer for it; he was letting God know that he wasn’t going to settle for anything less than the whole of HIS goodness.

The Lord longs to make your heart HIS throne and rule there all the days of your life. This is when HIS reign becomes glorious and real to the world. It begins in your heart, upon the throne that is guarded and only surrendered by you and you alone. With every area of life we surrender to HIS rule. We erect unto HIM an altar and when there is an acceptable sacrifice upon the altar, then the fire falls! Unless there is fire upon the altar, there is no worship! Oh that we may see Holy Ghost fire once again burning in our hearts and in ALL that we do for Jesus! Christian friend, would you position yourself today to pray this prayer and receive ALL the blessings and anointing that God has for your life? In your time alone with HIM today, it’s my prayer you receive ALL of HIM; HIS Hand, HIS Touch, HIS Divine Blessing in all you do IN JESUS NAME!
