Mar.9 Devotion:So Hard to Say No

So Hard to say No

I had a conversation this past Sunday afternoon that has had me thinking all week:Why is it so hard to say no? We see some accounts in the Bible where people said no regardless of circumstances. Think about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. These 3 knew the outcome, but still was willing to tell the king no. No seems to come easy when it comes to things of God. We can twist it however we want, but unless we are providentially hindered and we don’t go to church then we are telling God no. When we will rearrange our schedules for worldly things but not to help out for things at church then we are telling God no. However, when it comes to worldly things we find it hard to say no. It ranges from simple things to serious things. I can’t turn down a Reese egg, we can’t say no to our favorite tv show or favorite sports team. An addict can’t say no to their next high. Why though is it so hard to say no to these things. I’ve thought all week: is it fear, is it a comfort thing? God then directed me to this verse.

Psalm 37:4 Delight thyself also in the Lord ; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

It all comes down to desire. We will give in to what’s most important to us. I’ll ask you, what do you desire? When I desire to lose weight more than chocolate then I will say no. When we desire the things of God more than worldly things then He will become real in our lives. When we desire to see revival more than we don’t, then we will see revival. Do you desire to see God do something in revival this weekend. Maybe you read this and aren’t a part of our church, do you desire God to be real in your life today. He can be if that’s your desire.

May God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
