What is Success?
Acts 9:6,20
[6] And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. [20] And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.
If you are a student of The Bible you know this passage as Saul on the road to Damascus. We know that after this we see Saul become Paul, and go on to do wonderful things for Christ. We would consider Paul’s life a success for Christ, but why? Because of all the people he touched, the books In God’s Word he penned, or was he a success by simply doing what God called him to do?
Last weekend some of the men of church went on a golf outing. Your goal in golf is to get a little white ball into a cup 18 times if playing 18 holes. There are many different swings each man had, and many routes might have been taken to get to each hole, but getting the ball to the hole is what made it a success. It’s our flesh and our competitiveness that turns it into a competition. Do we look at the things of God the same way? Have you ever looked at someone else’s ministry and wonder why they are more “successful “, or look and think they sure are doing a lot so maybe you need to do more? When WE do this that’s when we get in trouble. We will open a door that God hasn’t opened, or possibly even close a door that God hasn’t closed yet. Jeremiah preached for over 40 years and we can’t find it chronicled anywhere that he had one person turn towards God. Yes we want to see results, but God is more interested in our willingness to just do what He says. If we are willing to do, then God will take care of everything else.
1 Corinthians 3:6-9
[6] I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. [7] So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. [8] Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. [9] For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.
Don’t get caught up today in looking what you are doing for God as a success or failure based on results. Just do whatever it is He has asked you to do, and in God’s eyes you are successful and that’s where it truly counts.
Matthew 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
God bless you today!
