Turning To God
2 Chronicles 36:13 And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God: but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning unto the Lord God of Israel.
The verse we have here is talking about Zedekiah. We see his refusal to turn to God. The fact that he wouldn’t turn to God wasn’t his only downfall. It’s the fact that he obstinately resolved that he would not turn to God. He stiffened his neck, thus refusing the yoke of God. In hardening his heart he gave his heart to more worldly things rather than God.
What do we turn to in times of need? If we have outdoor plans we will search the weather. If something needs repaired we will search YouTube for instruction video, or google a repairman. Starting a new diet or looking for a new recipe? Then we will find recipe books. We don’t look at recipe books to find the weather. Why then do we search worldly answers for those trials and questions in our lives, instead of turning to God. We will look at self help books, possibly ask our family or friends. God knows our tomorrow, so why then do we not turn to Him? We look at Zedekiah and think how could someone be that hard hearted! We actually are the same way when we refuse to turn to God. It’s just not written down and recorded about us. There are many on church rolls today that aren’t attending all because of their refusal to allow God to heal or lead them. There are also many members who are at every service that still deal with issues all because they try to fix things, search for answers themselves, instead of turning to God!
Just a simple question today, but one with so much impact in our lives. Who or what are you turning to today?
God bless you today!
