HE KNOWS ME, YET HE LOVES ME!
Psalm 139:1-6 O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.
[2] Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
[3] Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
[4] For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.
[5] Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
[6] Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
Psalm 139:16-18 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
[17] How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
[18] If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
What a powerful passage of scripture we see in our text today. I want to be a blessing to you today, so I want to encourage you at some point, before your day ends, to open your Bible and read all 24 verses of this chapter, you will be so glad that you did! As I was reading this chapter, just like David in (verse 4),
I became overwhelmed by the goodness and presence of our Lord. It was not long before there were tears of joy and gladness and I was having myself a time with Jesus. Hallelujah!
Psalm 139 is broken down into 3 categories that all describe attributes or characteristics of God. In (verses 1-6) we see the Omnisience of God which shows us that HE is an ALL-Knowing God! As our pastor often reminds us, there has never been a time where an event has ever occurred to God or took HIM by surprise, because HE already knew it ALL before the foundation of the World! My friend, HE knows YOU! The God of heaven has searched you as HE did David, and HE knows every thought, every action, and every intention of your heart, and yet HE still loves you. Now…just like I have already done, you can shout right there!
In (verses 7-12), we see the Omnipresence of God which declares to us that HE is everywhere! God is everywhere at all times. To the child of God, that means HE is there in the valley, and when we are on the mountain shouting the victory! As David tells us…God is there on this path of life in our downsittings and in our uprisings and HE there in the night, as well as the day. God is there if we make our bed in hell and HE will be there in the uttermost parts of the stormiest seas of this life. Christian friend, we can NOT run from God or get away from God, because HIS presence is everywhere!
As we continue on in the chapter in (verses 13-18) the Lord shows us HE is Omnipotent and has all power in this universe! There is no end to HIS wisdom or HIS power. In your life and mine, the Lord has the power to open or close any door, and to lead us in the path we are to take. There has never been a person too sick that HE is not able to heal by HIS power. HE can raise us up and give us strength to overcome in this life in time of need. Psalm 139 opens our eyes and builds our faith to know that we serve an ALL-Knowing, ALL-Powerful, God who is everywhere at all times! HE has searched us, and knows us and yet HE loves us!
Just imagine for a moment if you could take your fingers and take hold of the hand of God. You would be holding onto absolute power and sovereignty. Almighty God has etched out every detail of your life and it has been so even before you were conceived in the womb. HE knows where you are, where you came from, and HE knows what you are and what YOU COULD become IN HIM! With great skill and perfection God has already etched out and painted every detail of your life within HIS will. HE has already seen your life and every detail has been ordained and established by HIS providence.
In the depths of eternity, the Eternal One HIMSELF formed your feet of clay and knew the path they would walk upon.
When you awoke this morning, your Heavenly Father was seated upon HIS throne, reigning over the entire universe, and so it will be when you lay your head down to rest this evening. HE is seated there with ALL-POWER and authority on the throne of Grace. My Christian friend, HE is lovingly watching over every moment of your life, HE loves you, thinks of you, and YOU are HIS work. David said it BEST, YOU are fearfully and wonderfully made! Today, the sun will not rise on a day that HE has not ordained, and neither will the sun set on one until HE has accomplished what HE has purposed to do. What has this Wonderful and Almighty God purposed to do with your life today and the rest of your days??? As we see in our text, YOU can trust HIM! Would you let Jesus search you today and try you and lead you in the way HE has ordained for your life?
