Rooted In Christ
Colossians 2:6-7 [6] As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: [7] Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
The “new normal.” I don’t know how many times I’ve heard that phrase over the last few days. As we seem to have more and more freedoms taken away in the name of safety, it can begin to wear on us emotionally. Not only that, but also still with some having uncertainty about their jobs, or maybe even their own business. Paul gives wonderful advice here on how we can overcome all these things. Hopefully, if you are reading this then you are born again and walking in Christ. If not I’d ask that you’d reach out to the church or someone who can take you through the Scripture and show you what it means to be saved. Second, Paul talks about being “rooted and built up in Him.” Being rooted is about just reading our Bible or praying daily. It goes much deeper that that. Tree roots are said to reach out as long as the tree is tall. If we aren’t rooted then it becomes easy to get us to sway and fall into any new thing that comes our way, or to crumble in uncertain times. When we get this rooted in the things of God we stablish our faith. You ever look at someone who is going through something that you think is just unimaginable. They will be the ones to tell you the only way they made it through was God! When we allow God to become that big and real in our lives then there is nothing we can’t overcome.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Paul then talks about “abounding therein with thanksgiving.” How thankful are we to God for all things in our lives? Not just the blessings, but also the hardships that make should make us stronger and better Christians. We’ve heard it said and preached many times before. What if you only had today what we were thankful for yesterday? Being grateful to God for what He’s done for us is a good way to realize how blessed we truly are, and a great way to not get depressed with the things going on around us. It all begins with us being rooted in Christ and not placing our roots into things of this world!
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
